5 things that will silently kill your WordPress website (and how to fix them)

Most business owners don’t know their website is broken until a customer tells them.
Here’s what we see every time we audit a WordPress site:
1. Your website loads in over 15 seconds. You’ve already lost the visitor. 53% of people abandon a site that takes a longer time to load.
Fix: install a caching plugin like WP Rocket or LiteSpeed Cache and compress every image before uploading.
2. You have no SSL certificate. If your URL still starts with HTTP instead of HTTPS, Google is actively pushing your site down in search results, and warning visitors that your site is “not secure.”
Fix: Many hosting providers give you a free SSL. Activate it today.
3. Your website isn’t optimised for mobile. Over 60% of web traffic comes from mobile devices. If your site looks broken on a phone, you’re losing more than half your potential customers.
Fix: test your site on Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test tool right now.
4. You haven’t updated your plugins or WordPress version. Outdated plugins are the number one entry point for hackers. An outdated site is an open door.
Fix: update everything monthly and delete any plugins you’re not actively using.
5. Your site has no SEO foundation, no meta titles. No descriptions. No sitemap. Google can’t rank what it can’t understand.
Fix: install Rank Math or All in One SEO and set up the basics in under an hour.
